The top military brass Thursday reiterated its continued support to all state institutions and also pledged to safeguard the country against all external threats. The 216th Corps Commanders' Conference was held at the General Headquarters (GHQ) Rawalpindi and presided over by Chief of Army Staff (CoAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa, Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) spokesperson said.
"We shall continue to support all state institutions for peace, stability and progress of the country in best interest of the people of Pakistan," the CoAS was quoted by Director General ISPR General Asif Ghafoor as having said in his address to the conference.
The DG ISPR further said that the Corps Commanders' Conference reviewed geo-strategic environment with special focus on regional security and situation on the eastern and western borders including Line of Control (LoC). Progress of ongoing stability operations for internal security was also discussed, he added.
"The forum also pledged to safeguard the country against all external threats while consolidating gains of counterterrorism military operations which have put security situation of the country on positive trajectory for socio-economic progress and development," General Ghafoor said.
He said that the forum highlighted the importance of regional approach to eliminate the roots of terrorism and attached hopes for success of ongoing Afghan reconciliation process while supporting all stakeholders to bring Afghan war to a peaceful logical conclusion.
In a recent press conference, the DG ISPR said that Pakistan will take every step for the success of the Afghan reconciliation process. "This political reconciliation must succeed. We hope the US leaves Afghanistan as a friend of the region and not as a failure because it will in the interest of everyone," he said.
"There is no doubt that we will never fight anyone's war anymore, as we have reached the level of that stability where we cannot fight the war of Afghanistan within our own frontiers," he had said while responding to a question.
