The Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO) has detected power theft of 14.2 million units worth Rs 220 million during the last two months. The Company has launched an operation against those involved in power theft under the supervision of the prime minister task force. Under this drive, criminal cases were registered against 31,000 culprits.
Meanwhile, the LESCO has overcome the phenomenon of over billing and line losses have been reduced by 1.5 percent after up-gradation of the system. The material shortage in the Company has also been overcome since the Minister for Power Division Umar Ayub and Secretary Power Irfan Ali has formulated the task force.
Sources said the Company was accepting no pressure in its drive against power theft as the LESCO teams are active despite resistance from the power theft mafias.
Meanwhile, the LESCO chief has also banned postings and transfers in the construction company circle through a notification. The ban has been imposed to deter political pressure in this regard. The construction circle is meant for development schemes of members of the Parliament.
