Prime Minister Imran Khan on Saturday assured the business community of resolving the issue of sales tax refund soon and providing an environment conducive for industry. He was addressing a ceremony jointly organized by All Pakistan Textile Mills Association (APTMA), Pakistan Textile Exporters Association (PTEA) and Pakistan Readymade Garments Manufactures & Exporters Association (PRGMEA) in Lahore to express gratitude for providing energy affordability solutions to the exporting industry.
PM Khan said the government has already redressed the longstanding demand of availability of energy to the industry on compatible rates.
Imran also stressed his hope that government will also soon solve the problem of current account deficit. He assured his all out support to the textile industry adding that he knew the problems faced by the industry. "I assure you that we will improve the atmosphere for industry," he said.
He assured the industry that despite all the problems faced by country on economic front government will facilitate the industry. He said there is a difference in making profit and profiteering. He said people would invest their money if they make profits. "I want to see Pakistan standing on its own feet," he said.
He said Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir Mohammad provided the people opportunity to make money. He said China took out 700 million out of poverty in thirty years. He also said that that elevation of poverty is the priority of the government and it is only possible through industrialization.
He said nationalization policy of former prime minister Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto shattered the confidence of investors.
The prime minister said friendly countries have played an important role in bringing Pakistan out from economic crisis. He said due to the wrong policies of the previous governments Pakistan indulged in the war of others. He also said that now Pakistan will never be a part of any one's war. He said Pakistan has played an important role in starting mediation between the United States of America and Taliban. He further said that Pakistan is ready to play the role of mediator between Saudi Arab and Iran.
APTMA patron-in-chief Gohar Ejaz told that Pakistan's export was $25 billion in 2013 and if the exports were increased by 10 percent per year the exports of the country were $61 billion in 2018. Unfortunately, he said past governments had not taken serious steps of resolving the long standing demands of availability of energy to the industry on compatible rates.
Gohar thanked Imran Khan for providing energy to the industry on compatible rates. He stressed his hope that presently Pakistan's export is $23 billion and with the government's support, country's export will be double in next five years.
He further said only answer to come out of the massive fiscal and current account deficits, rising trade deficit gap, unprecedented depreciation of Pak Rupee, highest discount rate in the region and increase trend in inflation is only and only increase in exports.
APTMA chairman Syed Ali Ahsan said country's exports will increase after the removal of disparity between the rates of energy among provinces.
Punjab Governor Chaudhry Muhammad Sarwar, Chief Minister Sardar Usman Buzdar, Senior Minister Aleem Khan, PTEA patron-in-chief Ahmad Kamal, chairman Khurram Mukhtar, PRGMEA patron-in-chief Mian Muhammad Ahsan and central chairman Mubasshar Naseer Butt were also present on the occasion.
