Finance Division has directed Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) to abolish 5 percent duty on the import of newsprint. It is learnt that the Finance Division has written an office memorandum to the Chairman Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) in this regard. Earlier, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting had informed Finance Ministry that the Prime Minister Imran Khan had announced waiver of 5 percent duty on the import of newsprint. Ministry of finance is requested to take necessary action in the matter, Ministry of Information added.
During last meeting between Prime Minister Imran Khan and Council of Newspapers Editors and Pakistan Broadcasters Association, Prime Minister announced withdrawal of five percent duty on newsprint. He said the government will support the media industry and solve its problems.
