Prices of essential kitchen items witnessed a further increase during this week past as compared to the preceding week, a survey conducted by Business Recorder revealed here on Saturday. The survey observed that during the week under review, prices of sugar, formula milk NIDO and Everyday milk along with packed spices, ghee/cooking oil and pulses went up, vegetables and fruits prices witnessed a mixed trend, while prices of wheat flour and eggs remained stable.
Potatoes prices went down from Rs 130 per 5kg to Rs 120 per 5kg which in retail market were being sold at Rs 30 per kg, onion price further went up from Rs 140 per 5kg to Rs 150 per 5kg which in retail market was being sold at Rs 40 per kg against Rs 35 per kg, tomato price further went up from Rs 130 per 5kg to Rs 150 per 5kg which in retail was being sold at Rs 40 per kg against Rs 35 per kg.
Prices of different types of garlic remained stable in the range of Rs 300-400 per 5kg, which in retail market were being sold at Rs 70-95 per kg and ginger price remained stable at Rs 600 per 5kg, which in retail market was being sold at Rs 150 per kg.
Wheat flour price remained stable at Rs 785 per 20kg bag, eggs price remained stable at Rs 100 per dozen in wholesales market which in retail market were being sold at Rs 110 per dozen, live chicken price also remained unchanged at Rs 4,800 per 40kg while in retail market it was being sold at Rs 150 per kg and chicken meat was being sold at Rs 250 per kg.
Prices of all the major pulses went up as fine quality white lentil (Maash) was being sold at Rs 170 per kg against Rs 160 per kg while its normal quality was available at Rs 135 per kg against Rs 130 per kg; good quality grams were available at Rs 170 per kg against Rs 160 per kg and normal quality grams were available at Rs 130 per kg against Rs 120 per kg; kidney bean (Lobia) was being sold in the range of Rs 130-170 per kg against Rs 120-150 per kg, green lentil (Moong) at Rs 120 per kg against Rs 110 per kg and red lentil (Masoor) at Rs 130 per kg against Rs 120 per kg.
Ghee/cooking oil prices went up as normal quality ghee/cooking oil was being sold at Rs 150 per kg/litre against Rs 140 per kg/litre pack, while best quality ghee/cooking oil was being sold at Rs 1,030 per 5 kg/litre tin against Rs 990 per 5 kg/litre tin.
Sugar price went up from Rs 2,700 per 50kg to Rs 2,800 per 50kg bag, formula milk Nido and Everyday prices increased by Rs 50 per kg, and packed spices prices increased in the range of Rs 5-10 per pack of 100 grams. However no change was witnessed in the fish prices as various qualities of fish were available in the range of Rs 300 per kg to Rs 600 per kg.
During the week under review, prices of firewood and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) witnessed further increase as continued low pressure of pipeline gas forced households to shift on LPG and firewood for domestic use.
Firewod price has gone to Rs 850 per 40kg from Rs 800 per 40kg and LPG cylinder of 15kg was being sold at Rs 2,450 per cylinder against Rs 2,400 per cylinder.
Capsicum price went down from Rs 350 per 5kg to Rs 320 per 5kg which in retail market it was being sold at Rs 80 per kg against Rs 85-95 per kg; yam (arvi) price went down from Rs 220 per 5kg to Rs 180 per 5kg which in retail market was being sold at Rs 50 per kg against Rs 55 per kg; carrot, radish, and peas were being sold Rs 100 per 5kg respectively which in retail were available at Rs 30-35 per kg.
Okra price further went up from Rs 400 per 5kg to Rs 450 per 5kg which in retail market was being sold at Rs 120 per kg against Rs 100-110 per kg and ridge gourd (tori) price remained stable at Rs 400 per 5kg which in retail market was being sold at Rs 110 per kg. Prices of most of the vegetables including tinda, cauliflower, cabbage, beans, Karela and others remained stable during the week under review.
Fruit prices remained stable as white apple was available at Rs 90 per kg, Ambri apple at Rs 90 per kg, Pakistani Kala Kolo apple at Rs 150 per kg, Gaja apple at Rs 100 per kg and Iranian Kala kilo apple was being sold at Rs 160 per kg.
Good quality banana was being sold at Rs 80 per dozen and normal quality banana was available in the range of Rs 50-60 per dozen, while good quality guava at Rs 70 per kg and normal quality guava was available in the range of Rs 50-55 per kg.
Various qualities of grapes were being sold in the range of Rs 100-225 per kg. Best quality kinnow was being sold at Rs 200 per dozen, Khanpuri Shakri malta at Rs 180 per dozen, and normal kinnow was available in the range of Rs 70-100 per dozen. Normal quality pomegranate was being sold at Rs 150 per kg and special Khandhari pomegranate was available at Rs 275 per kg. Sapodilla (chikoo) was being sold at Rs 130 per kg and papaya was available at Rs 120 per kg against Rs 100 per kg.
