The Sindh Assembly on Monday plunged into chaos after opposition clamoured for justice to the family of a girl 'kidnapped, raped and murdered' in Khairpur. The house failed to proceed smoothly, as the GDA and PTI lawmakers rose from their seats immediately after the questions and answers session ended, demanding of the chair to let them table a resolution for Ramsha, who was first allegedly kidnapped, kept hostage and then shot to death in Khairpur.
The protesting opposition parties gathered before the chair tore copies of the assembly's agenda and tossed them up while raising chants: "Hang Manzoor Wasan", "shame, shame". The noise was too high to hear a word from the chair. Deputy Speaker Rehana Leghari made an effort to appease the opposition saying that their resolution on the matter will be permitted for deliberation once the house completes its business of the day.
Mukesh Kumar Chawla, Sindh Parliamentary Affairs Minister, also asked the protesting opposition to let the business complete and assured them about their resolution will be supported. However, both failed to subdue the opposition noisy protest. The TLP and MMA however shunned joining the protest for justice to Ramsha. Leghari said that ruling has been made for the adjournment motion, which will now be discussed first then other business. The adjournment motion was by Syed Zulfiqar Ali Shah on over billing by the Hesco in Mirpurkhas.
Soon, Speaker, Aga Siraj Khan Durrani took over the chair and partially succeeded to calm down the opposition but his efforts faded when GDA's Nusrat Sehar Abbasi began her clamour for Ramsha. Durrani immediately asked her 'don't shout at me". The protest went closer to the chair as opposition and treasury members both stood up from their seats. Meantime, the speaker ruled the house adjournment until Thursday at 2 pm.
Before the protest, the house witnessed a question and answers session regarding the Sindh Revenue Department and then call-attention notices placed mainly by the opposition. The remaining legislation remained overlooked. Latter outside the assembly hall, Nusrat Sehar Abbasi told reporters that Ramsha a girl in Khairpur District was kidnapped allegedly by Manzoor Wasan, who kept her in hostage for six days and then shot her to death in front of her mother.
She said that Ramsha case was more important than business of the assembly, adding that Syed Qaim Ali Shah, who has been a legislator and Chief Minister Sindh thrice from the same district, should have uttered a word for the victim girl. She criticized Qaim Ali Shah for not supporting Ramsha case, besides asking Bilawal Bhutto Zardari to take notice of the cold-blooded murder. She asserted that the opposition will not let the house run its business smoothly until the government discusses the issue in the house.
Dua Bhutto of PTI accused the police of being accomplice to the murder, saying that the entire PPP government backs the murderer. However, Imdad Ali Pitafi of ruling PPP expressed sorry for the victim girl and vowed to arrest the culprits behind the incident. But, he directly accused the PTI for the chaos in the house and Fawad Chaudhry Federal Information Minister for introducing 'abusive' politics in the country.
