The speakers from University of Karachi again won the team trophy at the All Pakistan Bilingual Declamation Contest organised by DHACSS College for Women, the Students Adviser Office of Karachi University announced on Monday.
Eighteen teams from all over the country participated in the contest where The University of Karachi (KU) clinched the team trophy. KU's Hafsa Tahir secured first position in the English category while Junaid Mumtaz received third position in the Urdu category.
Kinza Imran of Bahria College Karsaz (Karachi) and Amjad Ali of Islamia College, Quetta got other positions in the English category. In Urdu Declamation, Sub Lt Muhammad Ahsan of NUST PNEC won first position whereas second position embraced Saad Ghaffar who is from University of Sindh, Jamshoro. The Chairman, Board of Secondary Education, Karachi, Professor Dr Saeeduddin was the chief guest of the event. Noting significance of art of speaking, he lauded students' enthusiasm. He distributed certificates and shields among the participants.
KU Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Muhammad Ajmal Khan congratulated the students. He stressed the need to promote culture of tolerance in society and it could be done by holding dialogue and debate competitions.
