National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Chief former Justice Javed Iqbal on Saturday has taken notice of provincial Directorate of Archaeology and Museums (DOAM) Dr Abdul Samad and directed to present him at headquarters on February 18. In a press release, the NAB chief assured that all the requirements will be made according to the constitution and the law.
"NAB values Dr Abdul Samad's services to the nation and will ensure that his respect is maintained. Justice will be done in accordance with the law and the Constitution," the chairman of the accountability watchdog stated.
Dr Samad handed over to NAB on 10-day remand. He is accused of misuse of authority and violation of rules in appointments of Class IV employees. Earlier, Prime Minister Imran Khan on Saturday expressed resentment over NAB for producing Dr Abdul Samad before the court in handcuffs and said that the NAB chairman should take action against those in his institution who are involved in this disgraceful act.
Dr Samad was appointed as director of archaeology and museums in 2014 and was the youngest director of the department. He is a 'Pride of Performance' award winner for his services for the archaeology of the province.
Samad was presented in accountability court where the NAB prosecutor asked for the 14-day physical remand. His lawyer, Shumail Ahmad Butt argued in the court, Samad is one of the most respected archaeologists in the world.
His image was disgraced by arresting him without proper proofs. Butt asked the court that he should be released until; the NAB found any solid evidences against him.
However, the Judge has handed him over to the NAB on 10-days remand with clear directions to NAB to present solid evidence in the next hearing of the case. Dr Samad is the only Sanskrit PhD scholar in Asia, a full bright scholar and a gold medalist in archeology.
The NAB KP had arrested Abdul Samad for misusing his authority. The accused made numerous appointments at different archaeological sites in gross violations of rules, the press release stated.
