Prime Minister Imran Khan has said that no one would be allowed to create hurdles to accountability process and this procedure is not dangerous for democracy in the country. The Prime Minister expressed these views while chairing a parliamentary party meeting of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) in the Parliament House ahead of the National Assembly session on Wednesday. The meeting was attended by the members of National Assembly and federal cabinet from PTI and allied parties.
According to sources, the parliamentary party meeting discussed the matters pertaining to the country's political situation and other issues. The sources said the Prime Minister made it clear that no one would be allowed to create hurdles to the accountability process, adding no compromise would be made. He said that opposition remembers democracy upon the arrests of its leaders but there is no danger to democracy, adding that the PTI government will usher in a revolution in the lives of common people.
They said the meeting also reviewed the two-day visit of Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman to the country. They said the Prime Minister also took the parliamentary party into confidence over the situation arising after the Pulwama suicide attack. The sources said that Finance Minister Asad Umer also briefed the meeting about memoranda of understandings signed with Saudi Arabia.
Addressing the parliamentary party meeting, Imran Khan said the Saudi Crown Prince's visit was quite successful, adding that Pakistan is successfully coming out of the economic crisis. The Prime Minister said there will be no comprise on the sovereignty of the country and a message has been given to India in this regard. He said, "We have given India a clear message on the Pulwama attack."
Advising against the escalation of tensions between the two neighbouring countries, Imran Khan said that Pakistan would act like a responsible state. The sources said when the Prime Minister was apprised of Sindh Assembly Speaker Agha Siraj Durrani's arrest by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) during the meeting, he said in a lighter vein, "There will now be a threat to democracy." He was referring to the opposition's rhetoric over the arrests of opposition politicians by the anti-corruption body in graft cases.
The sources said that law and order of Karachi city was also discussed in the meeting. The members of PTI and MQM also expressed their concern over the problems being faced by people in Karachi. The Prime Minister assured the members that a comprehensive package would be announced for the people of Karachi. The meeting also decided to announce Social Welfare Programme on February 28. The sources said that the Prime Minister will himself inaugurate the programme.
