KP-based Qaumi Watan Party (QWP) leader and former senior minister Sikandar Hayat Khan Sherpao said that his party has been striving to unite Pakhtuns and address their issues.
He expressed these views during his separate meetings with Mazdoor Kissan Party leader Afzal Shah Khamosh and National Party leader Mukhtiar Bacha at their houses in Charsadda and Peshawar, respectively, according to a statement issued from Watan Kor. Asad Afridi Advocate of QWP, Dr Sarfaraz of National Party and Gul Haider, Fazle Raziq Advocate and Sher Bahadar of Mazdoor Kissan Party were also present at meetings. The leaders of the said parties assured the QWP leadership of their support to bring the Pakhtuns out of crisis-like situation.
Sikandar Sherpao vowed they were committed to making efforts for forging unity among the Pakhtuns, who had faced a host of challenges. Criticising the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI)-led government, the QWP leader said that those who had claimed to bring about a change had forgotten the Pakhtuns after reaching the corridors of power.
"Those harbingers of change compounded the problems of downtrodden people of the society," he noted, adding that the people had voted for the PTI under hope the party would provide relief to them but the rulers had dashed their hopes through their anti-masses policies. Sherpao asserted that PTI-led government failed in coming up to the expectations of the people. He said the government hiked electricity and gas tariff and raised the prices of life-saving drugs.
