Peshawar Electric Supply Company has improved its receivables by 4 to 5 per cent every month through recovery of pending amounts on electricity bills from domestic consumers to reduce the whopping line losses. Speaking a news conference at Wapda House here on Monday, Company Chief Executive Officer Dr Amjad Khan claimed that the company has managed to cut its increasing line losses by collection of Rs500 to Rs600 million every month since the drive against power theft was launched in December last year.
He further said that the company has improved receivable from 80 per cent to 97 per cent during the campaign. He expressed that the target to touch 100 per cent recovery will soon be achieved. According to the Ministry of Energy (power division) report, the Peshawar Electric Supply (Pesco) is at top of the list on the line losses with Rs48 billion or 32.6 per cent of the total line losses of Rs213 billion in the country.
The CEO said that the anti-power theft campaign was launched in those areas, wherein the company is being faced above 80 per cent line losses.
He said that electricity loadshedding duration has been reduced to 4 hours from 16 hours after the improvement in recovery in the high line losses areas.
He informed that the campaign would be extended to other circles due to gaining good results in 12 circles in six districts of the province.
Flanked the General Manager Operation, Sher Abbas Khan, and Director General Public Relations, Shaukat Afzal, he said that the recovered amount would be utilized on new grid stations as well as 11 KV transmission line and procurement new materials. He said that the steps are being taken to fully facilitate the electricity consumers at every level.
