Judicial Activism Penal (JAP) has approached the Lahore High Court against recent increase in prices of petroleum products for being unlawful. The petitioner JAP's counsel pleaded that the federal government on February 28 last increased the prices of petroleum products illegally. He stated that the government can't levy taxes more than 17 percent but it levied exorbitant taxes illegally and unconstitutionally on petroleum. The counsel therefore asked the court to set aside the increase in the petroleum prices and also declare that more than 17 percent sales tax on petroleum products as illegal.
