The dead body of the Pakistani prisoner, Shakirullah who was stoned to death by other inmates in Rajasthan's Jaipur Central Jail mid last month, has been handed over to Pakistan Rangers at the Wagah Border on Saturday. The murder of the Pakistani inmate had come after India has leveled baseless allegations against Pakistan of being involved in the Pulwama attack in occupied Kashmir. Shakirullah had been in the Indian jail since 2001.
It may be mentioned here that, Pakistan, in this regard, had lodged its protest with India. The Indian administration failed to protect Shakirullah. The elder brother and other relatives of the Shakirullah's family were also present at Wagh Boarder.
It is pertinent to mention here that Pakistan on Friday evening released Indian pilot Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthaman as a peace gesture in an effort to de-escalate tensions between the two countries. The Wing Commander was captured when his MiG-21 among two Indian military aircraft was shot down by Pakistan Air Force after they ventured into the Pakistani airspace. "Pakistan releases Indian pilot in an effort to defuse the Kashmir crisis."
The captured Indian pilot at the centre of one of the gravest military crises in South Asia in years was released from Pakistani custody in a dramatic night-time handover at a border post between the two countries on Friday. Recorder reporter from Islamabad adds: Pakistan has called upon India to take the killers of a Pakistani inmate Shakir Ullah to task and share details of the inquiry conducted into the incident, besides ensuring protection of the country's prisoners languishing in Indian jails.
"The government of India handed over the body of Shakir Ullah on Saturday, at Wagah Border. The family members of the deceased received the body," Foreign Office Spokesperson Dr Mohammad Faisal said in a statement. Shakir Ullah was killed by inmates in Jaipur Jail, India. The government of Pakistan condemned the incident and requested India to immediately provide details of inquiry of the murder and post mortem report, which have not been provided so far.
"Pakistan reiterates its demand that the culprits must be taken to task, findings of the inquiry and post mortem report may be shared urgently and safety of all Pakistanis, especially Pakistani prisoners in Indian jails, be ensured to prevent recurrence of such tragic and reprehensible incidents," he added.
