Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz lawmaker Ahsan Iqbal on Tuesday accused the government of making the Parliament non-functional and failing to provide relief to common man through its policies. "We have been waiting for a month to initiate debate on the mini-budget, but the inefficient government team has not started it yet," he said, adding that the Parliament has been made redundant virtually.
Speaking outside the Parliament House, he said the inflation has been doubled in the past six months and the government has levied more taxes in the shape of the mini-budget. He said that attitude of the government ministers is hurting the Parliament and democracy in the country, adding that tariffs of electricity and gas bills have been increased manifold, but the government has been creating dramas just to save itself from criticism.
About production order for the PML-N leaders, he said that his party is being discriminated as the attitude of the government is insulting. Iqbal said that the PML-N leader Nawaz Sharif who has been currently in jail has suffered angina attack but the government has intentionally kept him away from the hospitals where cardiologists and specialists were available for the treatment.
"If something happens to Nawaz Sharif, this government won't be able to face wrath of the people," he said, adding that his party held Prime Minister Imran Khan and Chief Minister Punjab Usman Buzdar responsible for mistreatment with Nawaz Sharif. "The government seems to have adopted a slow-poisoning policy regarding Nawaz Sharif," he said, demanding that specialist cardiac care should be provided to Sharif.
Talking about former Punjab Information Minister Faizul Hasan Chohan, he said the minister criticised Hindu community who have been playing positive role in all sectors of life. "They are patriotic and serving in the Armed Forces as well," he said, adding, "The minister attacked the foundation of Pakistan by using derogatory language against Hindu community."
About Federal Minister for Water Resources Faisal Vawda, he said that another minister who reached the status by flattering Imran Khan has used derogatory remarks which a Muslim cannot even think of.
Iqbal said that his party decided in a parliamentary meeting that they would demand the government to rescind Vawda's membership of the National Assembly. "And whatever he said it is between him and Allah," he added.
