The political leaders of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) on Monday urged the United Nations (UN) and global community for the implementation of UN resolutions on Kashmir to avert nuclear conflict between India and Pakistan which is posing serious threat to humanity.
While addressing the All Parties Kashmir Conference (APC) on Kashmir organized by the Jamaat-e-Islami AJK, the speakers said as per UN charter the Kashmiris' struggle for right of self determination is legitimate and the global community must come forward and play due role in averting any war between two nuclear armed countries.
They said that the UN should have to give top priority to the Kashmir issue and implement its resolution on Kashmir, adding that till the time the Kashmir issue was resolved, the clouds of war would continue to hover over the region. They further said that incase a war erupted between the two nuclear states, it would engulf the whole world and million people could become its victims. They said that Indian occupation forces in Held Kashmir were shedding the blood of innocent Kashmiris day and night and India did not have the courage to hold elections in Held Kashmir.
They said that India was been given a befitting reply by Pakistan adding that during the recent escalation, the world has realized that war in South Asia will bring the world to the brink of nuclear fallout, but now it was need of the hour global community must come forward and settle the issue peacefully.
The Kashmiri leadership said that now is the best time for the solution of the Kashmir issue as world powers including the US, Russia and China had realized the importance and the sensitivity of the Kashmir issue and also the need for its quick solution.
Speaking on the occasion Sardar Masood Khan, President AJK, vowed that the people and the government of AJK and Pakistan fully support the freedom struggle of the Kashmiris. He also condemned the growing human rights violations against the Kashmiris in Indian Occupied Kashmir and the victimization and harassment of Kashmiris all over India. Informing of his recent visit to the areas adjoining Line of Control, he said that India has used indiscriminate fire against innocent civilians in AJK. The AJK government, he said, will provide compensation to the affectees and it has also been proposed to bring all them under the umbrella of the Benazir Income Support Programme. The President said that first aid facilities have been provided to the almost five and half thousand civilians vulnerable to Indian fire, and bunkers are also being made with to help provide them protection.
Dr. Khalid Mahmood, Ameer Jamaat-e-Islami AJK said that the freedom fighters in Indian Occupied Kashmir, unlike the barbaric Indian occupation forces, differentiate between combatants and noncombatants. Kashmiris are simply exercising their right to self-defence which is enshrined in the United Nations Charter and freedom struggle of the people of Kashmir spans over 200 years beginning during the Dogra rule, Mahmood added.
All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC) Azad Kashmir Chapter leader Ghulam Muhammad Safi said that the Kashmiris in IOK are retaliating in the face of the growing aggression and repression inflicted upon them and are simply demanding their right to self-determination. This movement, he said, is purely indigenous and is spearheaded by unarmed Kashmiris. Safi said that it was time that world must place the Kashmir issue at the top and must ask India and Pakistan to resolve the problem by dialogue as per the resolutions of the United Nations. He said that in no way is it possible to resolve the issue of Kashmir without the consent of the Kashmiri people.
Safi said that a new wave of Hindu Fundamentalism is rising in India under the patronage of the ruling party and its Hindutva promoting affiliates like Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh, Bajrang Dal, Shiv Sena and Vishva Hindu Parishad.
Shah Ghulam Qadir, Speaker Legislative Assembly speaking on the occasion said that leaders and the parties in IOK, who have acted as facilitators and enabler in sustaining Indian occupation like the People Democratic Party and the National Conference must not be given primacy over the Hurriyat leadership and others like Shabbir Shah, Assiya Andarabi, Ashraf Sahrai and Musarrat Alam Butt who have consistently resisted Indian occupation and demanded the right to self-determination for the people for Kashmir. Qadir said "we must focus on the resolution of the Kashmir dispute. He informed that the AJK Legislative Assembly recently concluded a special session on the current situation in IOK, Line of Control and the escalation between Pakistan and India, in which all the AJK political parties unanimously approved the resolution condemning the recent aggression by India".
The conference was also addressed by numerous speakers from various political parties of AJK including former AJK President General Sardar Anwar Khan, MLA Abdul Rashid Turabi, MLA Saghir Chughtai, President People Parties AJK Latif Akbar, representatives of All Parties Hurriyat Conference Ghulam Muhammad Safi, and Syed Abdullah Gillani.
