Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) has formally parted ways with Muttahida Majlis-e-Amal (MMA), an alliance of five religious parties. Acting Emir of the JI Liaqat Baloch here on Wednesday during the meeting of the religious parties' alliance formally informed the MMA leadership that JI would contest next elections from its own platform under the JI banner and election symbol. The religious party alliance consists of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (Fazl), Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan, Jamiat Ahl-e-Hadith, Tehrik-e-Jafaria and Jamiat Ulema-e-Pakistan (JUP). The alliance at present has 16 seats in National Assembly and 7 in Senate of Pakistan with JUI-F remains major partner.
The decision was communicated to the MMA leadership at a meeting of the religious alliance in Islamabad on Wednesday.
