Pakistan Railways (PR) has become the favourite option for gangs to transport smuggled goods, like mobile phones from one city to another. As on Sunday, PR police recovered 735 smuggled android mobile phones worth estimated to be over Rs 3 million, here at the railways cantonment station.
Railways police SSP Shehla Qureshi told at a press conference that a gang is involved behind smuggling of mobile phones from Dubai and supplying the same in the local market particularly in Karachi. Sharing details SSP told that the smugglers were transporting these mobile phones from Faisalabad to Karachi via Millat Express Train.
The accused were nabbed red-handed by an assistant sub-inspector (ASI) Javed just outside the cantonment station as they were placing these mobile phones on a silver coloured car. They have a shop named 'Star Mobiles' at Saddar Mobile Market. The accused were identified as Muzamil son of Qasim and Mustafa Sikandar son of Sikandar, residents of Karachi. Accused purchase the smuggled goods from Islamabad making fake receipts. "These are non-custom paid items," Shehla said.
The FIR has been registered against them. The customs officials have also been included in the investigation, SSP told. Probe is underway, she concluded. Arrested accused were also presented before the media at the presser.
