The 15 members Khyber Pakhtunkhwa contingent part of the ongoing 72nd Punjab Games in Lahore for their token participation claimed nine gold medals and two silver medals in different disciplines. Looking after the much expected performances of the players despite being given token participation, Director General Sports Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Junaid Khan Sunday announced cash incentives of Rs 30,000 for the gold medal winners, Rs 20,000 for silver and Rs 10,000 for the bronze medalists.
It has also been confirmed that the medals won by KP players would not be counted for the tabulations for making overall position in the 72nd Punjab Games, however, despite all facts the KP players have shown tremendous result in the contests between the provincial contingents and won nine gold medals and two silver medals.
The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa contingent of 15 members, including two officials, participated in 10 different disciplines out of total 11 wherein players from Sindh, Balochistan, Gilgit-Baltistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa took part.
The participation of the provincial contingent was just to create an added amusement to the Punjab Games wherein players of the provincial contingents clash against each other in different disciplines.
In the karate contests two of the KP players including Murad and Asif got gold medals, in gymnastic Adnan Khan won two gold medals, in badminton currently National Junior Champion Qari Adnan, Umar Khan in Squash, Hilal Ahmad in Athletic, Zafar Khan in Archery, Abbas Khan in Tennis and Farhat Ullah in Wrestling won gold medals. Nouman and Abdullah grabbed silver medals in Weightlifting and Boxing.
The President of KP Cycling Association Nisar Ahmad when contacted, he confirmed that there is no cyclist part of the 15-member contingent. When contacted, DG Sports Junaid Khan also confirmed cash incentives for the medalists. He appreciated the players for their token participation in the Games.
He disclosed that soon a ceremony in this connection would be organized wherein the medalists of the 4th Inter-Provincial Games would also be honored with cash incentives as desired by Senior Minister for Sports, Culture, Tourism and Youth Affairs Muhammad Atif Khan.
