Sindh High Court (SHC) Monday sought reply from provincial government for not constituting Joint Investigation Team (JIT) into May 12, 2007 carnage and ordered to furnish it by April 22, 2019. A division bench of SHC headed by Justice Iqbal Kalhoro issued these orders in a petition pertaining to non-constitution of JIT into May 12, 2007 Mayhem.
In September last year, SHC had ordered for constitution of JIT and an inquiry tribunal into May 12, 2007. Sindh Government through a notification formed the tribunal, however JIT has not been formed so far. Court also sought the report about the payment of compensation to the victims of May 12, 2007 tragic incidents.
Meanwhile, a larger bench of SHC headed by Justice Aqeel Abbasi restrained the private schools from charging more than one month fee and gave them the deadline of April 15, 2019 to issue new challan by making deduction of twenty percent in it.
The court showed displeasure over the private schools for demanding two to three months fee in their challans and observed that private institutions even left behind tax officials in charging their fees.
Court also questioned the charging of June and July fee in May and said that it is illegal if the academic session expired in May. Court observed that private schools are not complying with the orders despite the repeated court instructions.
Bench observed that it had showed restrain so far in the matter and warned that it should not be compelled to deal with it sternly. Bench was hearing the petitions against various private schools, which were indulged in charging more than one month fee in their challans.
