Punjab Safe Cities Authority (PSCA) has successfully connected CCTV cameras of Kasur Safe City Project with the Integrated Command, Control and Communication Center (IC3) Lahore through optical fiber cable to ensure round the clock monitoring and security of both the cities.
"Now the Kasur Safe City cameras can also be monitored from the PSCA Headquarters Lahore," the authority announced on Monday. The installation of over 450 cameras has been completed in Kasur to monitor the whole city from Lahore. There are around 116 locations in Kasur where cameras have been installed. These locations included crime hot-spots and sensitive locations given by local law enforcement agencies (LEAs), an official said.
"A state-of-the-art monitoring center is already established in Kasur for IC3 monitoring which will be inaugurated by Punjab Chief Minister Usman Buzdar shortly," he revealed.
Earlier, the PSCA had installed 50 cameras in Kasur on emergency basis after the rape-cum-murder of Zainab Amin was reported last year.
He added that the PSCA is working on similar projects in Sheikhupura and Nankana so that all divisions of Lahore may be covered.
"The PSCA's monitoring centers are in final phase of construction in all nine divisional headquarters of Punjab whereas Rawalpindi and DG Khan Safe City project will be completed on priority basis as per the instructions of the competent authority," he further revealed.
Meanwhile, Provincial Minister for Law, Parliamentary Affairs and Local Government & Community Development Punjab and Punjab Safe Cities Authority's Vice Chairman Raja Basharat chaired a meeting at the PSCA Headquarters.
The meeting was also attended by provincial Finance Minister Hashim Jawan Bakht, MPA Sumaira Ahmad, Punjab Inspector General of Police (IGP) Amjad Javed Saleemi, CCPO Lahore BA Nasir Khan, PSCA Managing Director and other officers.
Speaking on the occasion, the minister said that the Safe City Project would be extended to other cities of Punjab as well.
Basharat informed the meeting that the chief minister would soon inaugurate the Kasur Safe City Project and directed to complete the remaining work of Multan, Rawalpindi and Dera Ghazi Khan Projects as soon as possible. He claimed that the vision of Punjab CM is aimed at protecting the lives of citizens and improving governance by using latest technology.
During the meeting, it was decided that the CCTV cameras installed at Ring Road Lahore would be connected to the Safe Cities Project to monitor over speeding and other violations of traffic rules. It was also decided to amend the Motor Vehicle Ordinance 1965 with respect to traffic fines or penalties besides improving the E-challan System and allocating a separate lane for motorcyclists in Lahore in order to overcome the growing traffic issues.
