Kissan Board Pakistan (KBP) has urged the federal government to declare areas hit by the recent torrential rains and hailstorm as 'calamity hit areas' so as to write-off the loans taken by the growers and extend them further financial help to enable them sowing next crops. The Board claimed that production of wheat crop will remain 33 percent below the target, vegetables have completely ruined besides other minor crops. The Board urged the government to start immediate help and compensation to the affected growers.
The demand was raised by the KBP Chief Chaudhry Nisar Ahmad while talking to a delegation of growers from Southern Punjab who narrated their plight to him after the recent spell of rain, dust storm and hailstorm. Chaudhry Nisar said that main wheat and gram crop had hit badly spreading over hundreds of thousands of acres of land in Punjab, Balochistan and other provinces.
