As many as 881 retired employees and the families of late workers of Karachi Water and Sewerage Board (KW&SB) are running from pillar to post to get their outstanding dues as the Sindh government seems least bothered to resolve the issue, putting hundreds of families into severe financial crises. United Workers' Union KW&SB has taken up the issue with the provincial government requesting it to ensure early payments of arrears of the board's retired and late employees.
On directives of Sindh Local Government Minister Saeed Ghani, the Secretary Khaldi Hayder Shah had moved a summary to Chief Minister House proposing a Grant-in-Aid amounting to Rs600 million in favour of KW&SB to resolve the issue on March 24, 2019, however, the approval is still awaited, the union's chairman Jozaf Sanam said in a statement on Sunday. He deplored that the arrears of retired employees of KW&SB are increasing continuously and currently reached to Rs600 million. He pointed out that due to this ugly situation they are going through financial crises. Sanam said that the MD, KW&SB, endorsed the proposal for Grant-in-Aid of Rs600 million in favour of KW&SB to resolve the genuine grievances of KW&SB regarding their payments/arrears. The union leader urged CM for immediate release of the fund.
