Sindh Assembly pre-budget session was marred due to squabbling legislators from ruling and opposition parties who almost came close to a fistfight after remarks by PTI MPA against PPP chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari, here on Tuesday.
The MPA from PTI, Raja Azhar called PPP chairman a defected leader triggering an instant reaction from the PPP lawmakers as the female MPA Kalsoom Chandio hurled a microphone at the PTI member.
The house descended into disorder, wearing a fish market look although PTI's Firdous Shamim Naqvi who is also leader of the opposition tendered apology for the controversial remarks which were later expunged from the assembly's recordings. Firdous expressed reservations over the assembly proceedings not being run as per the rules. He sought a separate day for the private members to table their resolutions and bills since the pre-budget discussion is held on Tuesday.
Speaker Sindh Assembly Agha Siraj Durrani, however, turned down his request saying that dictation cannot be taken to run the house.
The opposition walked out of the house in protest after having failed to press their demands. Later they came back and the pre-budget debate had begun. MMA's Syed Abdul Rasheed defended the Sindh government despite lack of development work because, he argued, federal government had not yet released due financial share to the province. he cited that Sindh government was facing with a financial problem and that is a matter of concern.
MQM's Javed Hanif recalled that in the past, Sindh's economy surpassed those other provinces' economy but now it has decline to the third position and better than Balochistan only. "We mourn Sindh's economy," he said, blaming the PPP's egoistic approach for tattered economy. He said PPP's government failed to increase the direct tax base that remains a challenge.
The provincial assembly's pre-budget debate session will be resumed on Wednesday at 1 p.m.
