Pakistani spinner Shadab Khan is returning to Islamabad from London on Monday after his check up by Dr Patrick Kennedy, world renowned gastroenterologist and hepatologist who specialized in liver disease in elite sportsmen.
Shadab has been put on medication and has also been advised complete rest for two weeks, following which he will undergo another round of blood tests in Lahore after which there will be more clarity on his availability for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019, a PCB spokesman, said.
Shadab Khan's illness came as a shocker as the Pakistan chief selector Inzamam-ul-Haq announced that Shadab has been left out from the 17-man squad for the England tour. The Pakistan team, led by Sarfaraz Ahmed, is currently in England for a one-off T20I followed by a 5-match ODI series.
The ICC event commences on Thursday, May 30 and will be hosted by England and Wales, wherein Pakistan will begin their World Cup campaign on Friday, May 31 when they take on the West Indies at Trent Bridge in Nottingham. As the 15-man preliminary World Cup squad for Pakistan was announced earlier this month, the 20-year-old Shadab was also included.
