Sindh High Court (SHC) on Monday issued notices to respondents including Park Lane Estate, Parthenon and others in a suit filed by former President Asif Ali Zardari, in which he disassociated himself from the Park Lanes and pleaded the agreement between the two to develop a property as illegal.
A single bench of the SHC headed by Justice Junaid Ghaffar directed the defendants to submit their replies by May 17, 2019. M/s Karachi Park Lane Estate (Pvt) Limited, M/s Parthenon (Pvt) Limited and others have been made defendants in the suit.
Asif Zardari in the suit submitted before the court that he was initially a Director of Park Lanes but he ceased to be its director from September 01, 2008 and Security Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP) was accordingly informed about it.
Zardari stated that he recently came to know about an agreement between the Park Lanes and Parathenon with respect to the development of property in Karachi. However, he was summoned by the Joint Investigation Team at Karachi constituted by the Supreme Court of Pakistan in Human Rights Case No 39216-G of 2018 "In the matter of slackness in the progress of pending inquiries relating to fake bank accounts etc." and question with respect to the said agreement was asked by the Joint Investigation Team from him.
He said that he and his son Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has nothing to do with this agreement. He prayed the court to declare the agreement between Park Lanes and Parathenon, in which both Zardari and Bilawal are the shareholders illegal, null and void ab-initio.
