A sharp increase in prices of important kitchen items including pulses, vegetable, beverage, pickle, dates, flour, except chicken meat and eggs was witnessed ahead of the holy month of Ramazan in retail market, according to survey conducted by Business Recorder here on Sunday.
As just a day left in commencement of the Ramazan, the upward trend in prices of almost all essential was continued in retail market due to lack of price checking mechanism by the authorities concerned. Cow meat is being sold at Rs450 and Rs460 per kg against the Rs400 per kg as few days ago. Fresh milk is being sold at Rs120 per litre, yogurt at Rs100 and Rs110 and Rs120 per kg.
Price of gram flour (baisen) has increased at Rs140 and Rs150 per kg which was selling at Rs100 and Rs120 per kg in the previous week, the survey noticed, it added that rate of sugar has also touched new heights as available at Rs75 per kg in local market against the price of Rs68 per kg in the last week.
The survey revealed that dates are being sold from Rs250 and Rs300 and Rs400 per kg in local market, while a noticeable increase in price of beverages of different quality and brands were registered.
However, the price of live chicken/meat has decreased in retail market as available at Rs176 per kg against the price of Rs191 per kg in the previous week. Farm eggs are being sold at Rs80 and Rs90 per dozen.
The survey noticed that the price of onion has touched new peak in retail market as available at Rs70 and Rs80 per kg in retail market which was selling at Rs40 per kg in the previous week. However, the price of tomato was remained unchanged as being sold at Rs50 per kg.
Similarly, it was witnessed that price of lemon has also soared up in retail market as available at Rs200 and Rs300 per kg which was selling at Rs160 per kg in the previous week. Ginger is being sold at Rs240 and Rs280 per kg, while Chinese garlic available at Rs160 per kg and other quality being sold at Rs120 per kg. Green chili has also soared up in retail market as being sold at Rs200 per kg against the price of Rs150 per kg in the last week.
Rs10 per kg increase was witnessed in price of red-potatoes as available at Rs30 per kg against the rate of Rs20 per kg in the previous week. Bitter ground (Kerala) is being sold at Rs100 per kg which was selling at Rs80 per kg.
Arvi is being sold at Rs140 per kg against the price of Rs80 per kg, ladyfinger is being sold at Rs100 per kg, capsicum at Rs80, apple, round and other gourds are available at Rs80 and Rs100 per kg. Peas are being available at Rs70 per kg.
Good quality rice (sela) is being sold at Rs150 and Rs160 per kg against the price of Rs140 per kg in the last week, while toota rice is being available at Rs70 and Rs80 per kg, the survey said, it added that big-size white channa was available at Rs140 per kg against the rate of Rs130 per kg. Moonge is being sold at Rs160 per kg.
Dal mash is available at Rs140 per kg, dal masoor at Rs100 per kg against the price of Rs90 per kg, the survey noticed, and added that dhoti dal priced at Rs130 per kg, red bean is being sold at Rs140 and Rs180 per kg which was selling at Rs120 and Rs160 per kg respectively. Moonge is being sold at Rs150 per kg.
The survey further said that white lobiya is being sold at Rs120 per kg which was selling at Rs110 per kg. Dal chilka (black) was available at Rs140 per kg while dal chilka (green) priced at Rs130 per kg. Dal channa is being sold at Rs120 per kg. According to the survey, the prices of cooking oil/ghee of different brands and quality were remained unchanged in the retail market as available within range of Rs170, Rs180 and Rs200 per litre/kg.As the holy month of Ramazan is draw near, the price of fruits is dearer in the local market as banana is being sold at Rs120 and Rs160 per dozen, showing an increase of 100 per cent.
