Provincial Agriculture department has evolved a detailed plan costing over Rs 4.50 billion to make agriculture sector more profitable, enhancing productivity and tracking it on modern lines. Sources in Agriculture department told Business Recorder on Friday that under the plan the government will provide most modern agri-implements on half price to the growers in fifteen districts of the Punjab.
Under the programme the government will provide 700 rice Trans-planters, power sprayers etc in Sialkot, Lahore Gujranwala, Faisalabad, Sheikhupura, Jhang, Okara, Gujrat, Mandi Bahauddin through balloting. The department had also initiated training programme for the paddy growers in Sialkot district enabling paddy growers to adopt new cultivation techniques of rice.
The Agriculture department was taking adequate steps for planting rice plants through Tans planters in every tehsils of Gujranwala Division. Apart from this Agriculture department had also initiated a program for creating awareness about the importance of Drip sprinkler system among the farmers in Province. The basic concept of creating awareness among farmers was to save the irrigation water from wastage across the Punjab.
The step was being taken for making the agriculture sector profitable and promotion of modern cultivation through modern technology. Under the programme special attention would be accorded on introducing ultra modern technology of drip sprinkler irrigation system in the Punjab. The purpose behind the programme was to save the irrigation water. Drip Sprinkler system would be installed on 20,000 acres of land for better and effective utilization of available irrigation water for enhancing agriculture productivity as well as to edging out the possibilities of wastage of irrigation water in the Punjab.
Special step had also been taken for promoting the tunnel farming to promote growing of off-season vegetables around the year which will be supportive in improving the economic conditions of the growers of the Province. The programme will pave the way for introducing modern and profitable farming, enhancing productivity, lessening the productivity expenditures, better utilization of fertilizers and pesticides and save the water.
