Former Director General Heavy Industries Texila and President of Al-Shifa Trust Eye hospitals Lieutenant-General (retd) Hamid Javaid was laid to rest here on Saturday. Hamid Javaid, 71, died at Combined Military Hospital, early in the morning. He left behind a daughter and two sons.
He was buried in Dhoke Khabba Committee Chowk Graveyard Rawalpindi. The funeral was held after Asar prayers at Main Jamia Masjid DHA Ph-I. Al-Shifa trustees, retired army officers and people from all walks of life attended the funeral. People paid rich tribute to Hamid Javaid for his selfless services in mitigating the suffering of vulnerable people.
Lt-Gen (retd) Hamid Javaid was born in Rawalpindi in 1947. He served as Chief of Staff (COS) to President Pervez Musharraf for six years from September 2001 to December 2007. Javaid was the son of Late Mohammad Ashraf (prominent leader of Allama Mashriqi's Khaksar Tehrik).
He led an illustrious career in the Pakistan Army spanning over 39 years. As chief of staff, he played a major role in ensuring that governance was transparent at the highest level. He developed harmonious relations between the civil and the military bureaucracies. He started the Al-Zarrar and Al-Khalid main battle tank projects while working as the director-general of Heavy Industries Taxila.
He was president of Al-Shifa Trust eye hospitals for 8 years after the demise of the founder president Lt Gen Jahandad Khan late. Quran Khawani would be held on Sunday at his residence in DHA 1.
