Prices of essential kitchen items, especially vegetables, fruits and chicken, witnessed a decline during this week past as compared to preceding week, revealed a survey conducted by Business Recorder here on Saturday. During the week under review, vegetable prices witnessed a declining trend as onions price came down from Rs 250 to Rs 220 per 5kg which were being sold at Rs 60-55 against Rs 65 per kg in the retail market, tomatoes price went down from Rs 230 to Rs 220 per 5kg which were being sold at Rs 50-55 against Rs 65 per kg in the retail market. However, potatoes price witnessed an increase from Rs 90-100 to Rs 120 per 5kg which were being sold at Rs 25-30 per kg in the retail market.
Local garlic prices went up from Rs 400 to Rs 450 per 5kg in the wholesale market which were being sold at Rs 130 against Rs 120 per kg in the retail market; Chinese garlic price went up from Rs 700 to Rs 850 per 5kg which was being sold at Rs 210 against Rs 180 per kg in the retail market, ginger price went down from Rs 900 to Rs 800 per 5kg in the wholesale market and it was being sold at Rs 210 against Rs 225 per kg in the retail market.
Capsicum price went down from Rs 300 to Rs 150 per 5kg which was being sold at Rs 40 against Rs 75-80 per kg in the retail market; yam (arvi) price went down from Rs 460 to Rs 400 per 5kg which was being sold at Rs 90 against Rs 95-105 per kg in the retail market; and China carrot price went down from Rs 200 to Rs 120 per 5kg which was being sold at Rs 35 against Rs 50 per kg in the retail market.
Cucumber price went down from Rs 175 to Rs 100 per 5kg which was being sold at Rs 25 against Rs 50 per kg in the retail market, cauliflower price went down from Rs 350 to Rs 250 per 5kg which was being sold at Rs 65 against Rs 85 per kg in the retail market, cabbage price remained stable at Rs 250 per 5kg which was being sold at Rs 60 per kg in the retail market, and lemon was being sold at Rs 1,300 per 5kg in the wholesale market which was being sold at Rs 330-350 per kg in the retail market.
Pumpkin price went down from Rs 350 per 5 kg to Rs 250 per 5 kg which in retail market was being sold at Rs 60 per kg against Rs 80 per kg, Brinjal price went down from Rs 300 per 5 kg top Rs 125 per 5 kg which in retail market was being sold at Rs 35 per kg against Rs 70 per kg, and tinda price went down from Rs 250 per 5 kg to Rs 150 per 5 kg which in retail market was being sold at Rs 45 per kg against Rs 70 per kg. Okra price remained stable at Rs 450 per 5 kg which in retail market was being sold at Rs 120 per kg, bitter guard price went down from Rs 400 per 5 kg to Rs 250 per 5 kg which in retail market was being sold at Rs 65 per kg against Rs 120-100 per kg, peas price went down from Rs 450 per 5 kg to Rs 400 per 5 kg which in retail market were being sold at Rs 90-100 per kg against Rs 120 per kg.
The survey observed significant increase in the prices of all the major pluses, Ramazan specific drinks, sugar, basin, wheat flour, basmati rice, yogurt and other items. Chicken and eggs prices witnessed a reduction as chicken was available at Rs 6,000 per 40 kg against Rs 6,200 per 40 kg which in retail market was being sold at Rs 170 per kg against Rs 175 per kg, while chicken meat was being sold at Rs 260-300 per kg. Eggs price reduced from Rs 82 per dozen to Rs 72 per dozen which in retail market were being sold at Rs 84 per dozen against Rs 90 per dozen. Pulses price which witnessed an increase during past week witnessed no changes during this week as fine quality white lentil (Maash) was available at Rs 190 per kg while its normal quality was being sold at Rs 150-160 per kg, good quality grams were available at Rs 200 per kg and normal quality grams at Rs 160 per kg, kidney bean (Lobia) was available in the range of Rs 130-170 per kg, green gram (Moong) at Rs 140 per kg and red lentil (Masoor) was available at Rs 150 per kg.
The survey observed no changes in the prices of cooking oil, tea, spices and milk as good quality cooking oil was available at Rs 1,050 per 5 litres, Lipton Yellow Label tea 200 grams pack was available at Rs 210 per pack and fresh milk was available at Rs 110 per litre while yogurt price jumped up from Rs 120 per kg to Rs 140 per kg.
