A total of 438 candidates, including three women, have filed nomination papers for elections on 16 general seats of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly in tribal districts.
According to candidates list issued by Election Commission of Pakistan, three women have submitted their nomination papers on general seats and this is the first time in the history of the tribal districts that women are contesting elections on general seats, while thirty candidates have submitted nomination papers on four reserved seats for women in the provincial assembly.
Similarly, a total of nine candidates have submitted their nomination papers on one reserved seat for minority. The process of nomination papers scrutiny will start on May 18. Appeals against decisions of the returning officers regarding acceptance or rejection of the nomination papers can be filed by May 22.
The tribunal will make decision on appeal till May 27, while the final lists of candidates will be displayed on May 28. Candidates can withdraw their nomination papers by May 29. The revised list of candidates will be published on the same day. The electoral symbols will be allotted to the contesting candidates on May 30.
Polling will be held in the tribal districts on July 2. This is the first ever election in tribal areas for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa assembly and will help the tribal people resolve their problems at the provincial level. The election commission has directed that no posting or transfer of any officer will be made in the tribal districts till the publication of names of returned candidates.
The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) had issued the amended electoral rolls for upcoming elections election for 16 Khyber Pakhtunkhwa assembly seats in tribal districts of the province.
The electoral roll was issued by the ECP, having complete details of voters in each provincial constituency. As per the ECP electoral roll, some 2,801,834 registered voters including 1,671,305 male and 1,130,529 female will exercise the democratic right to elect members of the provincial assembly on July 2 election.
In Bajaur tribal district from PK-100 to PK- 102, as many as 534,003 registered voters including 314,644 male and 219,359 female voters will cast their votes in three constituencies. Similarly, on two seats of Mohmand district - PK103 and PK-104 - total 280,499 voters will cast their votes including 175,218 male and 105,281 female voters.
For three seats of Khyber district - PK-105 to PK-107 - as many as 532,087 including 301,015 male and 231,072 female voters will exercise their franchises. Total 360,741 voters will cast their votes for three seats -PK-108 to PK-109 in Kurram district out of which as many as 204,818 male and 155,923 female voters will cast their votes.
In PK-110, a constituency of Orakzai district, a total of 196,436 registered including 110,741 male and 85,695 female voters will elect lawmaker. In two constituencies of PK-111 and PK 112 of North Waziristan district, a total of 320,177 voters including 210,656 male and 109,521 female voters will exercise their right to vote.
In South Waziristan, the election will be held on two seats included PK-113 and PK-114. As many as 386,829 voters including 237,769 male and 149,060 female voters will cast votes in favour of their candidates. On the seat of PK 115 former Frontier Regions (FRs), a total of 191,062 registered voters including 116,444 male and 74,618 female voters will cast their votes.
According to the list of Election Commission of Pakistan, a total of 25 male candidates have submitted their nomination papers for provincial assembly seat PK-100 Bajaur district, 41 male candidates for PK-101 Bajaur district, as many as 41 male candidates for PK-102 Bajuar district with relevant returning officer.
Likewise, for PK-103 Mohmand district, more than 22 male candidates and one female candidate have filed nomination papers, while 28 male candidates have submitted their nomination papers for PK-104.
Similarly, for PK-105 Khyber district, 27 male candidates, 28 male candidates and one female candidate for PK-10 have filed their nomination papers, whereas 30 candidates have submitted their nomination papers for PK-107 Khyber district with returning officer concerned.
According to the list of the ECP, as many as 42 male candidates have submitted their nomination papers for PK-108 Kurram district, for PK-109, a total of 21 male contestants and one female candidate submitted their nomination papers with the relevant returning officer.
Likewise, around 26 male candidates and one female candidate have filed their nomination papers for PK-110 Orakzai district with relevant returning officer. For PK-111 North Waziristan district, as many as 28 male candidates and for PK-112 North Waziristan district, 26 male candidates, for PK-113 South Waziristan district, 35 male candidates, for PK-114 North Waziristan district, 22 male candidates submitted nomination papers with returning officer concerned.
For PK-115 Frontier Regions (FR) more than 13 male candidates are contesting elections. According to the ECP, for four women reserved seats, as many as 30 candidates and one seat of minority nine candidates have submitted their nomination papers.
