Mayor Karachi Wasim Akhtar expressed severe concerns on the faulty sewerage system in the city and urged the Chief Minister Sindh to direct the Karachi Water and Sewerage Board (KW&SB) to take immediate measures to save the city from further deterioration as well as damage to newly constructed roads in different areas of Karachi.
Mayor in his letter to the CM Sindh informed that the situation would get further worse in the coming monsoon season because of out of order sewerage system. The investment made by the Sindh Government, KMC and DMCs on construction, repairing and maintenance of roads would get lost if no immediate measure was taken to correct the situation.
He said that all storm water drains in Karachi were being used as sewerage drains and have no capacity to take the storm water, the manholes have no covers and the sewage lines have got chocked especially in densely populated and old areas of city including Lyari, Kharadar, Methadar, Chakiwara, Shershah, Liaquatabad, Nazimabad, Malir, Landhi, Korangi and other areas.
