On directive of Karachi Mayor Wasim Akhtar, Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) has taken various austerity measures to bring down electricity bills in its offices and residential flats and bungalows of the officials. A press handout released by the civic body said that all the air-conditioners will start from 11:00 am onwards and all the lights and fans are to be switched off before leaving the office.
All heads of Department have been directed that all the air-conditioners are to be used by BS-18 and above officers and in future conventional lights are to be replaced by LED lights. All heads of Departments have also been directed to take action against all illegal connections and kundas within the premises of their office.
Payment of electricity bill for all residential flats/Bungalows which have been allotted to the officers/officials in future electricity bills will be the responsibility of officer/officials concerned. This may be noted that the two judges bench of Supreme Court Karachi Registry in its short order issued on 13-04-2019 clearly mentions that in future KMC will pay its monthly bills regularly and directly to K-Electric with effect from April, 2019, therefore in order to conserve the energy as the KMC is facing severe financial crunch so above measures need to be addressed.
