The Senate Standing Committee on Housing and Works was informed on Tuesday that a housing survey will be conducted countrywide for Naya Pakistan Housing Scheme while National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) has completed survey of seven districts.
The committee was briefed on the residential scheme launched at Quetta under the initiative of Naya Pakistan Housing Scheme. The secretary housing and works informed the committee that the housing initiative at Quetta is a joint venture of the federal and provincial governments.
The chairman committee said that Wahdat Colony Quetta is facing various problems as a 100-member delegation of residents of colony approached the Parliament. Their problems should be resolved and then the committee must be updated in this regard.
The federal government has also a plan to build 4,000 houses and apartments in Gwadar. It will also be a joint venture while the provincial government of Balochistan will provide land for the housing project. The cooperation agreement between the two governments would be signed soon and the committee would be informed subsequently.
Talking about another housing project 'Kuchlak', the committee was informed that 1,000 units are proposed to be built under the project. However, the Prime Minister approved construction of 2,200 housing units. The government has received 7,500 applications for the membership and ownership of units, adding that allotments would be made through balloting. The 30 percent ownership of the project would be transferred to the public. The committee also passed "The Federal Government Employees Housing Authority Bill 2019" with amendments in a meeting held here at the Parliament on Tuesday.
