Mumtaz Ali Shah Chief Secretary Sindh has said Karachi Circular Railway (KCR) and Green Line Bus projects are expected to be operational in current calendar year. Speaking at a meeting held at FPCCI here, he said that Sindh government with the support of Pakistan Railways had recovered all encroached land and the KCR was expected to be operational during ongoing year.
The meeting was attended by acting president FPCCI Noor Khan, S M Muneer, vice president Arshad Jamal, former president Khalid Tawab, Mazhar Ali Nasir and others.
Replying to a question regarding the release of funds for the KCR, Chief Secretary said that Pakistan Railways would responsible to recommence KCR operation and then it would be taken over by Sindh government to run it independently and added that rehabilitation plan for the inhabitants of encroached KCR land were being drafted and allocation of land would be made soon for their resettlement.
He said that his visit at FPCCI was aimed at encouraging the members of Pakistan largest forum of business community to pour investments in Sindh. He also assured the business fraternity for maximum facilitation in this regard. He termed water scarcity as the biggest challenge for Karachi, saying that K-IV project would be completed soon.
Shah said that Sindh government was planning to construct underground car parking at different places across the city to address parking issue and they were also in discussion for the establishment of Pakistan's first special technology zone under public private partnership. Meanwhile, S M Muneer patron-in-chief UBG urged the chief secretary to establish Khairpur like special economic zones at other parts of the province.
Acting President FPCCI Noor Khan said the Sindh government should introduce one window system for all provincial departments to facilitate the inhabitants of Sindh at maximum besides installing CCTV cameras at all the entry and exit points of the city. Khalid Tawab, former president FPCCI proposed the chief secretary to constitute industrial facilitation board.
