Sindh government is going to set up an endowment fund to help treat HIV/Aids patients, Sindh Health Minister, Dr Azra Pechuho told the Sindh Assembly on Saturday. "Sindh government has earmarked Rs 6 billion for providing immediate medical aid to the victims of accidents, she said, discussing the Sindh budget 2019-20.
Dr Azra also cited Rs 360 million to purchase 60 ambulance services for Karachi and the health department's plans to dispose of trash in hospitals to control infection diseases. GDA's Muhammad Shaharyar Khan Mahar said that the government-run schools are in tatters that is main reason behind students' dropout. He said Rs 2 billion allocated for education sector resulted in corruption. He said Sindh government should be held accountable for Rs 5,000 billion spending during the past 11 years. "Nearly 19 kids have died in Thar since the budget session has begun," he said.
MQM's Ali Khurshidi accused the PPP government of treating Karachi unfairly over the past 11 years with a scant budgetary allocation. He said that the city pays 90 percent of the province's total budget but in return it gets nothing sizeable. PTI's Muhammad Aslam Abro lamented Jacobabad's pitiful condition, saying that citizens long for potable water while sanitation system also remains in tatters.
Without naming, Sindh Transport Minister, Owais Qadir Shah criticised the Federal Railways Minister for not doing his part of job on revival of circular railway system. He promised to the house to establish a public transport system in Karachi.
PPP's Hari Ram Kishori Lal slammed arrest of the party's co-chairman Asif Zardari and provincial legislator Faryal Talpur by the NAB. He called the Sindh budget for the next fiscal year as balanced.
MMA's Syed Abdul Rasheed criticised the federal fiscal budget 2019-20, saying it is 100 percent deficit financial document that would continue to haunt public with bitter consequences. He said that the PTI government borrowed Rs 48,000 billion comparing to the past governments' loans of Rs 24,000 billion. He said that the PTI government had first told the public that it would approach IMF for bailout but finally it went farther even evolving the budget on the IMF conditions.
Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) lawmakers submitted an application at the Sindh Assembly secretariat to seek disqualification of the Faryal Talpur. Opposition leader, Firdous Shamim Naqvi told reporters at the provincial legislature before handing over the application to the Secretary Sindh Assembly.
"Faryal Talpur has not declared to the Election Commission the property which has been found," he said. PTI's legislator, Arsalan Taj said that there are undeclared properties of Faryal in Larkana and Qambar Shahdadkot and also in UAE. "This is now Speaker's responsibility to send a requisition to the Election Commission for disqualification within 30 days."
