The President of Sindh Science Society and Professor at Institute of Information & Communication Technology (IICT), University of Sindh Professor Dr Azhar Ali Shah represented Pakistan in Iran by attending the first Islamic World Science Citation Centre (ISC) executive committee (EC) members meeting chaired by its President Dr Mohammad Javed Dehghani.
The 3-day meeting of ISE executive council was held in Shiraz city of Iran wherein a number of representatives from different Organizations of Islamic World (OIC) regions attended it representing their countries. Dr Azhar Ali Shah nominated by the federal ministry of science and technology after the recommendations made by Sindh University vice chancellor represented Pakistani Universities.
Addressing the moot as keynote speaker Professor Dr Azhar Ali Shah talked about the standing of Universities in Pakistan in universe ranking systems and provided a detailed report on the historical background as well as facts and figures of the higher institutions of learning in his country.
Describing the internal and external quality assurance mechanism as per guidelines of higher education commission (HEC), he proposed for establishment of ISC based national ranking system for Pakistani Universities.
"The ranking of Islamic World Universities in universal ranking systems including ISC World Universities Rankings need to be improved", he maintained.
He said the ISC, based in Shiraz, Islamic Republic of Iran, was established to promote technical and scientific cooperation among Muslim scientists and Muslim countries worldwide, especially in making scientific publications accessible throughout the Islamic world. Earlier, the members discussed different issues and got informed of their responsibilities not only for their countries but for their relevant regions.
