Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has arrested Mian Tariq for allegedly making a controversial video of former Accountability Court Judge Muhammad Arshad Malik, who was relieved from his duties following his alleged involvement in the video scandal.
The name of accused Tariq was mentioned by the judge in his affidavit submitted to the Islamabad High Court (IHC) on July 12. "I was visited by Mian Tariq (an old social acquaintance when I was serving in Multan as additional district and session's judge from 2000 to 2003) and his son. Mian Tariq showed me a secretly recorded manipulated immoral video in a compromising position, saying that it is you doing this when you were serving in Multan," said the affidavit.
The FIA officials produced the accused before Civil Judge Shaista Kundi amid tight security arrangements. The accused was arrested by the FIA's Cyber Crime Wing. The FIA registered a first information report (FIR) against Mian Tariq and others for violating the Cyber Crime Act.
An FIA official told the court that Tariq resides in Multan and is a businessman. Tariq is involved in Judge Malik's vide scandal and was arrested by the FIA from sector F-6 Islamabad on July 16, he further said.
During the hearing, the judge asked Tariq about his business. Tariq told the court that he is associated with electronics business in Multan.
When the judge asked the accused if he was tortured, he replied in affirmative, saying his hand got broken during the custody. The accused took off his shirt to show signs of torture. The judge said that signs of torture are visible on his body. On this the investigation officer said that the accused is misleading the court and telling a lie. He requested the court to grant 10-day physical remand of the accused.
The court remanded the accused for only two days and directed the FIA to produce him before it on July 19 along with his medical report. However, the sources said that FIA arrested Tariq when he was trying to flee to Dubai. The Agency recovered a video from the suspect's home and also conducted its forensic audit, they added.
