The opposition parties are determined to send back Chairman Senate Sadiq Sanjrani to home, claiming to have the numerical strength of around 64 senators, whereas only simple majority (53) is needed to pass a no-confidence move to remove a chairman or deputy chairman.
A meeting of opposition parties presided over by Opposition Leader in Senate Raja Zafarul Haq at the Parliament House was held in which 62 senators participated to discuss the no-confidence motion against the chairman Senate.
While talking to media persons after the meeting, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Senator Javed Abbasi said that 62 senators participated in the meeting, while senator of the party - Lieutenant General Abdul Qayum (retd) and Chaudhry Tanveer - who are currently abroad, would be back soon.
He said that the opposition parties had reservations over the requisitioned session of the Senate scheduled for today (Tuesday), as the no-confidence motion has not been included on the order of the day.
"By dropping an important issue for which the opposition had submitted requisition, the government has made it clear that it's going for horse-trading, which we condemn," he said, adding, "None of our members will sell out his loyalty as we all are united."
Akram Khan Durrani of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) said that the opposition parties will show strength to the government by removing the chairman Senate as they all are united on one point agenda: the chairman Senate must go.
He said that any attempt to buy the loyalties of the senators through horse-trading will not succeed as the government is using all tactics to create rifts among the senators.
"We have full faith and confidence in our senators as they are unanimous in removing the chairman Senate," he maintained.
Opposition Leader in the National Assembly Shahbaz Sharif, who specially attended the meeting, said that it is wastage of time to talk about Prime Minister Imran Khan, as he is still atop container and is not ready to believe that he is the prime minister of the country.
While talking to media persons outside the Parliament House, he said that Khan is still captivated by the World Cup 1992, and has no idea regarding the problems of the masses, as he just wants to fill prisons with political workers.
"The incumbent government does not know anything except politics of revenge. It has become difficult for common man to make both ends meet because 'roti' (bread) is being sold at Rs 20, which shows how pro-poor this government is."
"Factories are facing closure, labourers are left jobless, employees are being terminated, medicines are not available and inflation is going up with each passing day," he lamented.
"We had improved things after learning lessons from the past. Charter of Democracy was a wonderful treaty, and more parties can be included in it. Things can be improved as it is still not too late," he added.
