Consumers Price Index (CPI) on monthly basis has registered an increase of 2.3 percent as it jumped from 246.82 points to 252.46 points in July 2019 against June 2019 while CPI on yearly basis went up by 10.34 percent as it jumped to 252.46 points in July 2019 against 228.80 points in July 2018. According to the CPI data released here on Thursday by Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS), the CPI general inflation increased by 10.34 percent on year-on-year basis in July 2019 as compared to an increase of 8.9% in the previous month and 5.8% in July 2018.
The CPI has recorded five years and 8 months highest level, as it was 10.90 percent in December 2013 against 10.34 percent in July 2019. Core inflation measured by non-food non-energy CPI (Core NFNE) increased by 7.8 percent on year-on-year (YoY) basis in July 2019 as compared to an increase of 7.2 percent in the previous month and 7.6 percent in July 2018. On month-on-month (MoM) basis, it increased by 1.7% in July 2019 as compared to an increase of 0.3% in previous month, and an increase of 1.2% in corresponding month of last year i.e. July 2018.
Core inflation, measured by 20 percent weighted trimmed mean CPI (Core Trimmed) increased by 8.0 percent on YoY basis in July 2019 as compared to 7.3 percent in the previous month and by 5.9 percent in July 2018. On MoM basis, it increased by 1.7 percent in July 2019 as compared to an increase of 0.4 percent in the previous month and an increase of 0.9 percent in corresponding month of last year i.e. July 2018.
Sensitive Price Index (SPI) inflation on YoY basis increased by 12.2 percent in July 2019 as compared to an increase of 10.6 percent a month earlier and an increase of 3.6 percent in July 2018. On MoM basis, it increased by 2.6 percent as compared to an increase of 1.6 percent in the previous month and an increase of 1.2 percent in corresponding month of last year i.e. July 2018.
Whole Price Index (WPI) inflation on YoY basis increased by 13.5 percent in July 2019 as compared to an increase of 12.7 percent a month earlier and an increase of 10.5 percent in July 2018. WPI inflation on MoM basis increased by 3.1 percent in July 2019 as compared to an increase of 0.3 percent a month earlier and an increase of 2.4 percent in corresponding month of last year i.e. July 2018.
Prices of following commodities witnessed an increase on monthly basis in July against June 2019: potatoes, 16.84 percent; cigarettes, 11.13 percent; pulse Moong, 5.41 percent; eggs, 5.06 percent; gur, 4.80 percent; pulse Mash, 4.50 percent; wheat flour, 3.58 percent; fresh vegetables, 3.56 percent; pulse Masoor, 2.83 percent; vegetable ghee, 2.49 percent; bakery and confectionary, 2.45 percent; rice, 1.77 percent; milk fresh, 1.41 percent; pulse gram, 1.31 percent; tomato, 1.17 percent; sugar, 1.09 percent; and meet, 0.93 percent.
On monthly basis, prices of following items witnessed a reduction: chicken, 8.26 percent; fresh fruit, 7.95 percent; onion, 1.73 percent; and betel leaves & nuts, 0.65 percent.
On monthly basis prices of following non-food items increased: gas, 30.90 percent; motor vehicles, 9.47 percent; construction input items, 5.09 percent; personal equipment, 4.69 percent; transport services, 4.23 percent; motor fuel, 3.20 percent; electricity, 2.63 percent; and household rent, 1.86 percent.
On annually basis prices of following food items witnessed an increase: onion, 58.83 percent; pulse Moong, 47.62 percent; cigarette, 37.37 percent; gur, 31.37 percent; sugar, 30.72 percent; pulse Mash (washed), 22.27 percent; potato, 21.07 percent; spices, 12.91 percent; pulse gram, 12.29 percent; meat, 11.97 percent; pulse masoor, 10.78 percent; wheat flour, 8.63 percent; cooking oil, 8.57 percent; rice, 6.83 percent; tea, 5.39 percent; and milk fresh, 5.24 percent.
Prices on following items on YoY basis witnessed a reduction: tomato, 18.07 percent; egg, 11.45 percent; betel leaves & nuts, 10.26 percent; gram whole, 3.46 percent; and chicken, 2.91 percent.
Price of following non-food items witnessed an increase on annual basis: gas, 142.57 percent; motor fuel, 22.68 percent; motor vehicles, 20.36 percent; personal equipment, 18.17 percent; construction input items, 14.97 percent; motor vehicle accessories, 13.27 percent; electricity, 11.33 percent; transport services, 8.14 percent; personal care, 6.83percent; and household servant, 6.20 percent.
