Total assets of 327 entities operating under Non-Banking Finance Institutions (NBFIs) stood at Rs 1,137.85 billion as on July 1, 2019. According to the latest document of the NBFI industry issued by the SECP here on Tuesday, 23 Asset Management Companies /Investment Advisors have total assets of Rs 36.56 billion as on July 1, 2019 with share of 3.21 percent in total assets.
Trend of growth in assets of NBFI industry revealed that there has been a growth of 194 percent from June 2010 to June 30, 2019. The compound annual growth rate stood at 12.72 percent during June 2010 to June 2019 of the NBFI industry. A total of 203 Mutual Funds have total assets worth Rs 577.64 billion (50.77 percent of total assets of the NBFI). The assets of discretionary and non-discretionary portfolios stood at Rs 197.64 billion up to the said period.
The total assets of 19 Pension Funds amounted to Rs 26.50 billion (2.33 percent of total assets of NBFI industry).
Five REIT Management Companies have total assets of Rs 5.72 billion and one Real Estate Investment Trust (REIT scheme) has assets worth Rs 46.05 billion.
Ten investment banks have assets worth Rs 63.19 billion (5.55 percent of total assets).
A total of 25 Non-Bank Microfinance Companies have assets worth Rs 114.21 billion (10.04 percent share in total assets).
The total assets of six Leasing Companies amounted to Rs 10.16 billion (0.89 percent share of the total assets).
A total of 28 Modarabas have assets worth Rs 53.45 billion (4.70 percent of the total assets).
Four Private Equity Companies have assets to the tune of Rs 0.16 billion (0.01percent share in total assets).
A total of three Private Equity Funds have assets worth Rs 06.57 billion (0.58 percent of total assets).
According to the SECP, total number of entities does not include plans (94) as they are not considered Notified Entities or NBFCs. These plans are managed under 24 different mutual funds.
Direction No 12 of 2017 dated April 27, 2017 requires AMCs to exclude the amount invested by fund of fund schemes in underlying funds managed by the same asset management company (AMC) while publishing the amount of assets under its management in advertisements. Accordingly, if the amount invested by fund of fund schemes in underlying funds of the same AMC (which is Rs 32,796 million) is deducted from AUMs (assets under management) of the industry, the total assets under management of the industry amounted to the tune of Rs 544,848 million, as of June 30, 2019.
As of June 30, 2019, total numbers of funds are 203 while 94 Plans are being offered under 24 different Fund of funds.
The Annexures to the Sector Report reflect the sum of number of plans and funds (excluding the 24 funds with the underlying investment plans), which, as of June 30, 2019 are 273.
The information pertaining to RMC is based on their latest available accounts for the period ended on December 31, 2018. Total assets of an REIT Management Company as of June 30, 2018 have been included in total assets of REIT Management Companies for June 30, 2019 and June 30, 2018.
Moreover, an REIT Management Company Ltd was licensed to carry out REIT Management Services in May 2019 and its total assets as of June 30, 2019 have been included in total assets of REIT Management Companies for June 30, 2019.
Two NBFCs (which hold licenses for Asset Management & Investment Advisory Services) have also been authorised to act as Private Equity Company. The companies' assets are included in the assets of AMCs/IAs.
