The National Assembly Standing Committee on Human Rights has sought the report on implementation status of the recommendations made by the committee in the previous meetings. The committee meeting was held here with MNA Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari in the chair on Thursday and considered the minutes of its previous meeting held on May 20, 2019.
The committee was briefed by the regional police officer (RPO) Multan on the incident which took place in the jurisdiction of Qutab Pur police station, Multan, on March 5, 2019 regarding illegal dentition and torture of three brothers. The matter was referred by the speaker National Assembly to the panel.
The committee was not satisfied with the briefing of the RPO Multan and the report presented before the panel. The chairman committee on the recommendations of the committee members decided to constitute a subcommittee on the subject to fully cover all the aspects of the incident.
The committee also condemned the political victimisation of political leaders in Pakistan, saying such acts were not even taken by the military dictators in the past but they are being taken by Prime Minister Imran Khan-led federal government against the opposition.
The meeting also unanimously passed a resolution condemning the longstanding and the most escalated genocide in Indian Occupied Kashmir (IoK), as a gross violation of all United Nations and international conventions on human rights. The committee through the resolution urged the international community, in general, and the global leadership, in particular, to take strict notice of the sustained killings, rape cases and arson across Indian occupied territory of Jammu and Kashmir, with particular focus on the recent use of cluster bombs along the Line of Control (LoC).
The resolution also reaffirmed its unconditional support for the Kashmiri people and condemned the move by India to unilaterally alter the special status of Kashmir. It wholeheartedly supported the decision of the government of Pakistan to suspend all the bilateral trade and commercial activities with India.
The committee stressed upon the member nations of the UN to declare India as a rogue member whose intentions indicate that it does not stand for regional stability and world peace, which goes against the very charter of the UN.
The committee considered the report of the subcommittee on human rights on the bills. The committee approved the report of the subcommittee and decided to defer "The Zainab Alert, Response and Recovery Act, 2019" till its next meeting for further deliberation.
The committee deferred the agenda items regarding the status of implementation on the judgment of the Supreme Court of Pakistan dated June 19, 2014 and the commitments made with the United Nations and all other international bodies along with current status with respect of the child protection and safety and security of journalists with the directions to the concerned to brief the committee in its next meeting.
