Governor Punjab Chaudhry Muhammad Sarwar on Saturday gave a loud and clear message to the international community as well as Sikh community around the globe that the Kartarpur Corridor Project would be opened for the Sikh community. "Around 80 percent of the Kartarpur Corridor Project is completed and remaining work would also be completed at the earliest," the Governor said while addressing a press conference along with Special Assistant to Prime Minister on Information and Broadcasting Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan here at Governor's House.
The Governor termed the opening of Kartarpur Corridor for Sikh yatrees a historic step of Prime Minister Imran Khan. He said Sikh conventions will be held in Lahore and Nankana Sahib on the occasion of 550th birth anniversary of Baba Guru Nanak Dev. He said first such convention will be held at Governor House in Lahore in which Sikhs form all over the world will participate. The Governor said all minorities enjoy equal rights in Pakistan as per the constitution. He said all out measures will be taken to safeguard the rights of minorities enabling them to perform their rituals and rites according to their faith.
The Governor expressed solidarity with the Kashmiris, saying the government under the leadership of Prime Minister Imran Khan is fighting the case of Kashmiris in the UN and all around the world. India is doing new theatrics every day but Pakistan is standing in support with Kashmiris. Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan said on the occasion that "Plant for Pakistan campaign" was a project for survival of Pakistan as climate change coupled with environmental threats are posing manifold challenges.
She said the government was working to end environmental suffocation in the country and all stakeholders were supporting it. "Prime Minister Imran Khan had transformed this slogan Green and Clean Pakistan into a movement," she said. "With every passing day quantity of oxygen was reducing and quantity of carbon dioxide was increasing in the air which was alarming."
Firdous further said the government has raised the Kashmir issue at all international forums and now Kashmir issue has highlighted at international level.
Earlier, Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan in a tweet said that the two new members of Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) from Sindh and Balochistan had been appointed according to the procedure prescribed in the constitution. "Both new members, appointed by the government, were considered honest and legal experts as all the country's bar associations and councils had supported the new appointments," she said.
