Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) MNA and Fixit founder Alamgir Khan on Saturday claimed that six district municipal corporations (DMCs) consume record petrol worth Rs 800 million every year but claim of having no funds to collect the garbage.
Talking to Business Recorder on telephone, he said that there could be no other "shameful" example of mega corruption than this as six DMCs spent such a huge sum of amount on petrol every year but then complain of lack of resources for dumping the garbage.
"This is quite shameful and unfortunate as no one is serious about the issues faced by the Karachiites. The sole purpose of these people (PPP and KMC) is to mint money, and this is reason the garbage issue could not be resolved," he declared.
He held Sindh provincial government and Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) responsible for Karachi's untreated waste, saying how much corruption takes place takes place in the city is reflected from the millions of rupees petrol spent by the six DMCs.
Khan said that unless the menace of corruption is eradicated from the institutions in the province, there is no light at end of tunnel that Karachiites will ever get rid of the garbage issue they have been facing for so long.
"The federal government is ready to give money to the provincial government but we all know it will directly go into the pockets of those sitting at the helm of affairs," he added.
He further said that if the federal government sets up a separate institution to resolve the garbage issue, the PPP will start crying that the Centre is infringing upon the rights of the province.
The PTI MNA said that it's the responsibility of the city's mayor but he claims of lack of resources, adding the mayor has nothing to say when he is asked what his department's 10,000 are doing as they are drawing salaries from the national kitty but doing nothing.
As MNA, he added, he did everything possible to resolve the issue but nothing could be done as long as the issue of corruption is there and "PPP walas" are the in-charge of the province.
