MQM-P holds demo, demands arrest of attackers

KARACHI: Muttahida Qaumi Movement Pakistan (MQM-P) on Thursday staged a protest demonstration outside Karachi Press Club (KPC) against attacks on its workers and political offices in Karachi and demanded of the provincial government of Sindh to arrest the culprits.

According to details, a large number of party workers including women holding placards and banners gathered outside the KPC and demanded arrest of the killers of their party workers.

Expressing grave concern over attacks on their workers and offices, Senior Deputy Convener Amir Khan said terrorists are continuously targeting his party leaders and workers. He said   the recent attacks show that terrorists’ main target is the party’s leadership, reports PPI News Agency. He said the province government has completely failed in controlling law and order situation in the city.  He alleged: “The Sindh government is busy to save their corrupt people instead of arresting the miscreant involved in these attacks.”

He said that the MQM-P believed in a peaceful political struggle and its workers would never become part of any armed struggle or violent politics. “We will never give arms in anyone’s hand.”

He said the law enforcement agencies must ensure that no more incidents of targeted killings occur in the city, adding that his party was ready to render any sacrifice for restoration of law and order in the city.

He said in the fresh wave of violence in the city that has already claimed the lives of former MQM-P MNA Ali Raza Abidi, worker Shakeel Ansari and two Pak Sarzameen Party (PSP) workers but no culprit has been arrested as yet. He said: “Sindh government is running police department with political motives which has resulted police’s failure to check such incidents.”

He criticized the ruling Pakistan People’s Party, saying that PPP leaders are talking 18th amendment but they themselves are hurdles in way to devolving power to local governments”.

MQM-P Rabita Committee member Faisal Sabzwari said today we are protesting with great sadness as the terrorist had targeted our party workers. He regretted that no one is ready for protection of our party workers. He said we are peace-loving people, adding it is the responsibility of state to provide security to citizens as to the constitution. He expressed his grief over the killing of the party workers and demanded culprits’ arrest.

He asked the provincial and federal governments to fulfill their constitutional responsibilities and provide security to the party. He said two sons and a daughter of a senior member of Sindh Public Service Commission has passed the competitive exam this time and the government should take notice of it.
