KARACHI: Supreme Court’s Karachi Registry on Monday rejected the pre-arrest bail plea of the three suspects in a case relating to financial wrongdoing in government funds in Sajawal district of Sindh.

A apex court’s bench, headed by Justice Gulzar Ahmed, heard a plea for pre-arrest bails of three suspects, Ali Saleem, Imtiaz Ahmed and Bashir Ahmed, and rejected their bail plea. The three suspects managed to flee from the premises of the court due to the negligence of National Accountability Bureau’s (NAB’s) officials.

During the hearing, Justice Gulzar Ahmed, remarked that development funds are generated with a lot of difficulties but they are looted by nexus of corrupt government officers.

’The citizens were deprived of water, healthcare, education and other facilities due to the corrupt elements,’ the justice remarked.

“How can we complete the development work when government officers loot everything?” he remarked.

Justice Ahmed also remarked that the contractors had themselves admitted that contracts in Sajawal district were fake.  ‘’These government officers rob everything,’’ he said.

The counsel of the accused contented that his clients could face jail so pre-arrest bail be granted to them.  He said NAB was probing into allegation of corruption in Sajawal development funds.

The lawyer said that the accused have no connection in the corruption so their bail should be approved.
