CAIRO: Egypt, the world's largest wheat importer, procured 1.62 million tonnes of wheat from local farmers from the start of the season through Sunday, the cabinet said in a statement on Monday.

Egypt expects to procure about 3.6 million tonnes of wheat from its farmers during the current season, which began on April 15, the cabinet said.
