Qureshi holds talks with Iranian foreign minister in Islamabad
Amid rising tensions with the United States, Iranian Minister for Foreign Affairs Javad Zarif met FM Shah Mahmood Qureshi on Friday, where the Pakistan’s FM reiterated that the country will continue its reconciliatory efforts for ensuring peace and reducing tension in the region.
The two counterparts were speaking at the delegation level talks between Pakistan and Iran in Islamabad. The Pakistani side was led by FM Qureshi while the Iranian FM led the Iranian delegation. FM Qureshi said that tension in the region is no one's interest and added that Pakistan wants resolution of all outstanding issues through diplomatic engagement.
FM Qureshi also said that all stakeholders need to demonstrate patience and tolerance. Zarif acknowledged Pakistan's efforts for establishing peace in the region, local media reported.
The two sides expressed satisfaction over implementation on the decisions made during Prime Minister Imran Khan's recent visit to Iran. The two sides also agreed to continue cooperation on bilateral matters.
Zarif who is on a two-day visit to Pakistan was welcomed by senior officials of the Foreign Office and Embassy of Iran upon arrival in Islamabad on Thursday.
The Iranian FM is also expected to call on PM Khan and other senior military leadership. As part of his regional outreach, Zarif is visiting the country amid escalating tension between Iran and United States to hold talk with Pakistani leadership about the situation and update them on Tehran's position.
