PPP, PML-N last governments responsible for circular debt, inflation: Umer Ayub

ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Power, Umer Ayub Khan has said that the people of this country were facing challenges and problems due to a heavy  circular debt, inflation and bad governance created by the last governments of Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP),  and Pakistan Muslim League-N (PML-N) during their tenures of government.

Talking to a private news channel, he said the PML-N had left 450 billion rupees in the shape of circular debt in the power sector while in the gas sector, the department concerned had to face 250 billion rupee circular debt.

Due to the weak policies of PPP and PML-N leaders, besides less interest in resolving the genuine issues of the masses, he said the last governments had left a heavy burden for the the members of the new government of Pakistan Tehreek e Insaf (PTI), who were trying to reduce a huge circular debt, fiscal deficit, and high inflation matters.

Regarding rising dollar and inflation issues, he said both the parties including PPP and PML-N, had been playing gimmicks with economic figures.

Umer Ayub said that Asif Ali Zardari of PPP was responsible for bad governance and other financial matters in Sindh.

In reply to a question about seeking help from International Monitoring Fund, he  said that leaders of PPP and PML-N had been approaching IMF many times during their periods of government.

Expressing satisfaction over the dynamic vision and policies  of Pakistan Tehreek e Insaf (PTI) government, he said keeping in view the situation of the country, the present leadership had to take strong decisions and initiatives for lifting the economy besides eliminating the corruption and poverty challenges from the society.

He claimed that no load shedding was being observed during the ‘Iftari’ and ‘Sehri’ timings.

The minister said, we will try to generate the electricity from 10, 000 mega watt to 14,000MW  in next few years. He added that the department concerned was working on renewal energy projects to meet the targets in this sector.

To a question he said that Prime Minister Imran Khan was striving hard to improve the system, and for this, all out efforts were being made.
