India reveals plans to launch its own space station in coming years

Taking its space missions to another level, India has announced its plans of launching an entire space station in upcoming years for the astronauts.

Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) chief K Sivan revealed plans to launch up a space station like ISS in the year 2030. However, this 20-ton space station would be a small one where astronauts would only be able to stay for up to 15 to 20 days.

“We are planning to have a space station for India, our own space station,” Sivan said in a conference.

Sivan mentioned that though small, the space station would be enough to allow microgravity experiments. He asserted that the country won’t depend on and collaborate with other countries either, as per Engadget.

Moreover, further details for the project are expected to come in after India’s first human mission scheduled to take place in 2022. For now, the country is focused on an uncrewed lander mission, called Chandrayaan-2, to the moon that is slated to launch on July 15, as per NDTV.
