FBR chairman tells banks to gather details of benami accounts themselves

Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) Chairman Shabbar Zaidi asked on Monday all banks to collect details of benami accounts of their bank account holders themselves.

According to a statement issued by the FBR, Zaidi wrote to the heads of the banks and told them that the FBR does not want to contact account holders directly. He wrote that this will maintain people's trust in the FBR. The FBR chairman has also said that the information regarding benami accounts will be kept secret, local media reported.

The chairman further said that if the board and the banks work together better results will be achieved. The FBR chairman requested that the banks submit all information related to benami accounts to the board within 15 days.
